Dynamic Children Learning Center

My mother was an educator.  She was a College professor in St. Paul College Manila.  When she gave birth to me, her 2nd daughter; she decided to stop working.  To continue generating income, she put up her own pre-school.  From the early 1989 to 2010, I am proud to say that we had the best pre-school in town.  The elite of Project 8 were our target market and we captured them.  Parents who wanted their children to be admitted in the best exclusive schools in Quezon City would enroll their kids in our school because they know that our graduates always make it to the cut.
Growing up in my lolo’s ancestral house where the 1st floor was transformed to a pre-school, I actually hated being forced to perform in all school programs.  My mom would ask me to recite poems, play a piano piece or host the school’s programs like Family Day or even the Graduation Ceremony.  It didn’t make any sense to me when I was young but now I realized my mom was building my confidence and was preparing me for greater things.
As early as Grade 4, I was already a part time employee.  I would tutor kids who had challenges in their academics.   I taught all subjects but Math was my favorite back then.  I was delighted to see parents trusting to pay in full a young girl like me.  I felt even more elated when my struggling students make a 360 degree turn and get awarded at the end of the year.
Each time my mom goes on vacation, I run the business like a school Directress. I conduct job interviews of applicants.  I talk to parents who are inquiring about our school.  I sell the benefits of going with us.  I accept payments and even issue receipts.  At a young age, I already know that I am an empowered woman.
Because of my part time job as a tutor in my mom’s learning center, I had my own money.  I became financially independent.  I was able to buy the things I wanted like Family Computer cartridges or Benetton shirts without asking from my parents.  I learned the importance of budgeting and spending wisely.  I learned that nothing in this world comes easy.  A lot of hard work and sacrifice is required to be successful.
Lesson: Start them early.  Expose and engage your children in activities that will mold them to be successful in their future endeavors.
